Mark Shirley runs weekly art classes for people who have mental health difficulties, stress or anxiety. This class is not generally open to the public.

Arty-Folks offers therapeutic visual arts workshops to adults of working age who feel at a low point in life and who are struggling with mental ill health. Activities cover a range of Crafts and Fine Art projects including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, modelling, etc. Workshops are suitable for total beginners and are designed to stretch people’s skills and abilities. No referral or booking is required and people can join any Wednesday. Costs £2 per session which includes all art materials and refreshments.

HARP is a self help group of amateur artists who enjoy a variety of art activities, mainly as a hobby. They partake in small exhibitions, organise visits from established artists, enjoy visiting local art galleries as a group, and get together once a week on Thursday mornings at Artspace to paint and draw.

Artists with any level of ability are welcome.

Clay & Fire is a friendly and informal weekly ceramics workshop. Several outdoor Raku firings are also organised each year, and a community events in the city centre are occasionally planned. Clay & Fire is lead by member artists and welcomes both complete beginners, and those who have some experience of ceramics but have no access to a studio or wish to meet other practitioners.

Clay People

This is a pottery workshop taking place at 2 - 4.30pm on Saturday afternoons, for adults and accompanied children of 8+. it is a fun and easy session with frequent short demonstrations. Simple projects are offered or you can pursue your own ideas. There is a pottery wheel for those who would like to learn this skill. The group go out on related field trips about twice a year. The cost is £8 per session and includes all materials.

Figure and portrait sculpture with Tanya Kozin RBSA. Develop your skills in working from life in practical sessions. We are meeting on Wednesday evenings.

You will have the opportunity to produce a clay figure (or portrait) sculpture ready for mould-making or firing. Some previous drawing experience is necessary. Tutorial guidance will be provided.

We do figure sculpture in Autumn and Spring term, and Portrait sculpture in the Winter term.
